Drugs can destroy someone physically and mentally, but unfortunately people that grow up in an unstable atmosphere tend to harm themselves and others. At the age of 30 he could no longer play sports and couldn’t perform regular tasks like he could before. He got involved in all sorts of hard drugs and due to that he had four strokes.
For instance, my grandfather lost his father at 10 years old and didn’t have a dominant male role model in his life. Growing up with no dad to counsel you and push you to succeed in whatever you do can definitely take a toll on a kids life. Jimmy doesn’t have a father figure in his life and I feel he looked up to bobby for guidance and direction.
Although, he gave into peer pressure, I believe there are some factors that led Jimmy to make these decisions and go down the dangerous path he did. Besides the trouble, they also get involved with Illegal substances, starting with cocaine and eventually getting hooked on heroin. Jimmy and his other friends caused a lot of trouble in school and throughout their neighborhood. Bobby was the star of the their basketball team before getting diagnosed with Leukemia and eventually dying. Jimmy has four close friends Pedro, Neutron, Micky, and Bobby. Jim, who is just like any typical teenager, curious to try new things and devoted to having fun and hanging out with friends, let’s peer pressure get the best of him. While he thrives at doing both, he does have struggles that progressively get worse throughout the movie.
